Q: What is your policy regarding sick children?
A: Our illness policy has been put into place to provide a healthy environment for all of the children, parents and staff. It is important that everyone adheres to the illness policy for the wellness of everyone entering the school. Our illness policy is provided as part of our Registration Packet. If your child exhibits any of the symptoms mentioned in the illness policy, you should keep your child home from school. If your child exhibits any of the symptoms as stated on our illness policy while at school, we will call you, and your child will need to be picked up from school.
Q: Do I have to pay for days my child is absent from school due to illness, holidays or personal days?
A: Think of your tuition as reserving the days you have scheduled your child to attend. If you miss a day due to illness, holiday, personal days, you still need to pay for your full weekly tuition. You are reserving your child’s time and space in their classroom at the school.
Q: What types of meals and snacks do you serve?
A: The school provides a morning and afternoon snack. The children may also make snacks at school as part of the teaching curriculum. Parents will need to provide lunch on a daily basis. Lunches should be made up of healthy foods and a drink. During the school year you may pack food items that need microwaving, if you desire your child have a warm lunch. During the Summer Jamboree Program, weather permitting, the children will eat lunch outside at the playground picnic tables. During the summer months, a picnic lunch works the best.
Q: Do you charge extra if I am late picking up my child from school?
A: Everybody wants to go home after a long days’ work, school staff included. When you are late, school staff must remain at work until you arrive to pick up your child. In order to compensate staff, a $5.00 late pick-up fee is charged for every five minute period you are late picking up your child.
Q: What is your staff turnover?
A: We try to limit staff turnover as much as possible, but it happens. In our effort to maintain a consistent staff, Jeffersonville Country Day School offers its employees a safe and clean work environment, professional development, competitive wages, health insurance, IRA matching, and paid sick and vacation days.
Q: What is your child care philosophy?
A: We believe that every child should be provided with the opportunity to develop intellectually, socially, and emotionally to his or her greatest potential. Through skillful guidance and a safe, secure, and happy environment, children will develop self-confidence and gain the skills needed for future growth. The atmosphere at Jeffersonville Country Day School is one of acceptance. Our goal is to nurture the total child by enhancing a positive self-image and encouraging the child’s natural curiosity to learn about the world around them.
Q: What are your security/safety policies?
A: We have a security entrance system, which allows only authorized individuals into the school building. Parents are given a set of key tags upon enrollment. Parents can authorized individuals other than themselves to pick up their child by indicating this information on the Emergency Contact/Parental Consent Form. All authorized individuals not familiar to the staff must provide a picture identification before a child is released for pick up.
Q: Can I observe/visit my child whenever I like?
A: The school has an open door policy for all parents to visit at anytime. Parents should become familiar with their child’s class schedule, and ongoing special events that take place at the school. We believe that parent participation in their child’s early childhood education leads to a positive school experience for both the child and the parent.
Q: Is the school licensed?
A: Jeffersonville Country Day School is licensed by the Department of Welfare as a Child Care Center, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education as a Private Academic School.
Q: Does the staff have any background checks done before they are employed?
A: Before any staff is hired, they must complete an employee application where employment history and references are checked. Applicants are then asked to complete an assessment test which is scored by an independent Human Resource Service to score their aptitude to work with young children in a school environment. Once employed, employees must obtain a Federal Criminal History Background Check through the FBI, a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance through the Department of Welfare, and Criminal Record Check through the Pennsylvania State Police. All school volunteers must also have clearances before working with the children.
Q: Does the staff have CPR training?
A: All employees are trained on an annual basis in Infant and Child CPR and Fire Safety Training.
Q: When is tuition due and how is it collected?
A: Tuition is due on Mondays, or the first day of scheduled attendance of the week. Tuition can be paid weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Forms of payment can be made by cash, check, debit card, or credit card (MasterCard , Visa or Discover )
